The Territory's resources

Overview

The mining and resource industry plays a vital role in the Northern Territory, and continues to play one as we head towards a renewable energy and net zero emission future.

It directly employs more than 5,000 Territorians, supports hundreds of small businesses across our regions, and delivers millions of royalty dollars annually into essential infrastructure, such as schools and hospitals.

As the world transitions to renewable energy, the demand for the NT’s resources is set to grow.

The Territory has some of the most sought-after critical minerals in the world, including lithium and rare earth minerals, used to make products like solar panels, batteries and high-tech electronics.

And gas, as a low-carbon energy source, is empowering this transition to renewable energy.

Clean energy jobs are jobs of the future, but it is essential this happens sustainably under a world-class regulatory regime, and for the benefit of all Territorians.

The Territory Government is here to make sure the mining and resources sector is doing right by Territorians - with the right regulation, consultation and outcomes for our economy, environment and future generations.
